Description
White Tile Adhesive Formulation, typically used for high-quality bonding of ceramic, porcelain, marble, and other natural stone tiles. White tile adhesives are preferred for light-colored or translucent tiles, as they prevent any discoloration that might be caused by darker adhesives. White Tile Adhesive Formulation: Ingredients: White Portland Cement – 1 part White Portland cement is used to maintain the aesthetic quality of the adhesive and prevent discoloration. Fine White Sand (Silica Sand) – 3 to 4 parts Sand provides structure and improves the workability of the adhesive. It should be fine to ensure a smooth consistency. Marble Powder or Limestone Powder – 0.5 part This enhances the adhesive's workability and helps to maintain a smooth texture. It also contributes to a whiter finish. Polymer Additive (SBR or Redispersible Polymer Powder) – 0.1 part The polymer improves flexibility, bonding strength, and water resistance. It also helps in better adhesion on porous and non-porous surfaces. Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) – 0.05 part This is a cellulose-based product that improves the adhesive’s open time, allowing for easier application and adjustment of tiles. Plasticizer – 0.02 to 0.05 parts To improve the workability of the adhesive, prevent hardening too quickly, and ensure a smooth finish. Water – As required Add water gradually to create a smooth, paste-like consistency, adjusting based on the desired thickness of the adhesive. Optional Additives: Antifungal Additives – To prevent mold or algae formation, especially in damp areas like bathrooms or kitchens. Pigments – If you need to add a tint to the adhesive for specific tile applications (though typically unnecessary for white adhesive). Instructions for Preparation: Mix Dry Ingredients: In a clean, dry container, combine the white Portland cement, fine white sand, and marble or limestone powder. Stir well to ensure the dry components are mixed thoroughly. Add Polymer: Gradually mix in the polymer additive (SBR or redispersible powder) for enhanced bonding strength, flexibility, and water resistance. Add Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC): Add the cellulose ether (HPMC) to improve the open time of the adhesive, which will allow you to reposition tiles more easily during installation. Add Plasticizer: Add the plasticizer to improve the smoothness and workability of the adhesive. Gradually Add Water: Slowly add water to the mixture while stirring continuously. Keep adding water until the paste reaches a thick, smooth, and workable consistency. Check Consistency: Ensure the adhesive is thick enough to spread evenly with a notched trowel, without dripping or running. Application: Apply the adhesive to the substrate using a notched trowel, ensuring that the adhesive is spread evenly. Place the tiles onto the surface and press them firmly. Allow Curing Time: Allow the adhesive to cure properly before subjecting it to any heavy load or moisture exposure. Curing time typically ranges from 24 to 48 hours, depending on the environmental conditions. Additional Notes: Coverage: The coverage can vary based on the type of tile, the thickness of the adhesive applied, and the substrate surface. Typically, 1 bag of adhesive (20kg) can cover about 3–4 m² when applied at a thickness of 3mm. Open Time: The open time (time before the adhesive starts to set) is usually about 20-30 minutes, depending on the temperature and humidity levels. Working Temperature: Ideal temperature for application is between 5°C and 35°C.
