C2TES1 Tile Adhesive Formulation

Description

C2TES1 Tile Adhesive is a high-performance, flexible tile adhesive suitable for a wide range of tiles, including large format tiles, ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles. The "C2TES1" classification is based on the European standard EN 12004, and it represents a high-strength adhesive (C2), which is flexible (T), with extended open time (E), and can be used on substrates with specific movement (S1). Here’s a detailed formulation for C2TES1 Tile Adhesive: Ingredients: Cement (Portland Cement) – 1 part The main binder that provides strength and bonding power. Fine Silica Sand – 3 to 4 parts Used as a filler to improve the workability of the adhesive. It also controls the consistency and texture of the paste. Marble Powder or Limestone Powder – 0.5 part Added to improve the adhesive's workability and smoothness. Redispersible Polymer Powder (SBR or Acrylic Polymer) – 0.1 part This polymer helps enhance flexibility, bonding strength, and water resistance, making it ideal for floor and wall tiles in damp or outdoor areas. Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) – 0.05 part A cellulose-based additive that enhances the open time of the adhesive, allowing for longer working periods without the adhesive setting prematurely. Plasticizer – 0.02 to 0.05 parts Enhances the workability of the adhesive and ensures it remains smooth and easy to apply. Water – As required Added gradually to form a smooth, paste-like consistency that holds well on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Cement Additives (Optional): Retarders can be added if needed for extreme temperatures or long open time. Accelerators can be added in cold weather for faster curing. Antifungal or Antimicrobial Additives (Optional) These additives can prevent mold and mildew growth in damp areas such as bathrooms or kitchens. Instructions for Preparation: Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large, clean container, combine the Portland cement, fine silica sand, and marble or limestone powder. Stir thoroughly to ensure the dry components are well mixed. Add the Polymer Powder: Gradually add the redispersible polymer powder (SBR or acrylic polymer) to the dry mix. This will improve the flexibility and adhesion strength of the adhesive. Incorporate Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC): Add the HPMC to enhance the open time and workability of the adhesive. This ensures you have enough time to adjust tiles during installation. Add the Plasticizer: Add the plasticizer to ensure smooth spreading and easy application. Gradually Add Water: Slowly add water while mixing to form a smooth paste-like consistency. Ensure that the mixture is neither too thin nor too thick. It should hold onto the trowel without dripping. Check Consistency: Test the mixture to make sure it’s thick enough to apply and spread without running but still remains workable. Application: Use a notched trowel to apply the adhesive on the surface. For large-format tiles, ensure the adhesive is spread evenly, and that the ridges are consistent. Press the tiles firmly into place. Allow Curing: Allow the adhesive to cure properly. Typically, it should be left undisturbed for 24-48 hours, depending on temperature and humidity, before exposing it to any moisture or load. Additional Notes: Coverage: Typically, one 20kg bag of C2TES1 Tile Adhesive will cover approximately 4-5 m² at a 3mm thickness, but this may vary based on the size of the tiles and surface preparation. Open Time: The open time for C2TES1 is typically 20-30 minutes, meaning you can work with the adhesive for that period before it begins to set. Working Temperature: Ideal working temperature is between 5°C and 35°C. Avoid application in extreme heat or cold. Bonding Applications: This formulation is suitable for use in both indoor and outdoor environments, including wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and swimming pools. It is also recommended for high-traffic areas or areas requiring flexibility, such as floors with slight movement. Advantages of C2TES1 Tile Adhesive: Strong Bonding: High bonding strength suitable for large-format tiles and natural stone. Flexible: Ideal for substrates that have slight movement or need flexibility in bonding. Extended Open Time: Offers more time to adjust tiles during installation, reducing the chances of errors. Water-Resistant: Suitable for use in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Versatile: Can be used for both wall and floor applications with a variety of tile types. This C2TES1 Tile Adhesive formulation ensures a strong, flexible bond that can be relied on for large-format tiles, heavy-duty applications, and challenging environments.
