C1TE Tile Adhesive Formulation

Description

The "C1TE" classification refers to a standard set by EN 12004, which is a European standard for tile adhesives. C1TE adhesives are classified as standard-setting adhesives with good strength, suitable for both ceramic and natural stone tiles, and they include a certain level of flexibility. C1TE Tile Adhesive Formulation: Ingredients: Cement (Ordinary Portland Cement) – 1 part This serves as the main binder and provides strength to the adhesive. Fine Sand (Silica Sand) – 3 to 4 parts Sand helps improve workability and enhances the adhesive’s texture for spreading. Limestone or Marble Dust – 0.5 part (Optional) To improve the adhesion, and make the product easier to apply. Polymers (SBR or Redispersible Powder) – 0.05 to 0.1 part These additives provide flexibility, improved bonding strength, and water resistance. Additives (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) or similar) – 0.05 part Cellulose ethers improve the adhesive’s open time and make it easier to spread. Plasticizers – 0.02 to 0.05 parts To enhance the workability and prevent the adhesive from becoming too thick too quickly. Water – As required to achieve the desired consistency. Gradually add to the dry mix until you get a thick, smooth paste that holds well on the surface. Optional Additives: Antifungal Agent – To prevent mold growth in damp areas. Pigments – For coloring the adhesive if needed. Instructions: Mix the dry ingredients: In a large container, combine the cement, fine sand, limestone or marble dust (optional), and cellulose ether (HPMC). Stir these together to ensure a uniform mixture. Add the polymer: Slowly add the polymer (SBR or redispersible powder) to the dry mixture. This will provide flexibility and improve bonding strength. Mix with water: Gradually add water while stirring continuously to form a thick, smooth paste. Make sure that the mixture is consistent and free of lumps. The consistency should allow easy spreading on walls and floors without dripping. Use and application: Apply the adhesive onto the substrate using a notched trowel, ensuring an even spread. Press the tiles into place and ensure a strong bond. Curing: Allow the adhesive to cure properly. Typically, it takes 24-48 hours for full curing, depending on the environment. Important Notes: Coverage: Coverage depends on the type of tile and surface texture but usually ranges from 3 to 5 square meters per bag (for 1mm thickness). Open Time: The open time for a C1TE adhesive is typically around 20-30 minutes. Working Temperature: Ideal application temperature is between 5°C to 35°C.
